Panel and Poster Session Description
There are two types of program offerings at CRIEI, group panel sessions and poster sessions. All conference attendees must present in one of the two types of sessions.
Panel Sessions. The panel sessions consist of no more than two to three brief presentations, designed to stimulate dialogue (up to 75 minutes), and are followed by at least 45 minutes of group discussion. Each session is allotted a total of 2 hours. The focus of the panel sessions is on greater understanding of research issues, challenges, and problems – not the traditional dissemination of research findings. A member of the planning committee will serve as a host for each panel session. The function of the host will be to ensure that the presentation keeps within the allotted time period as well as help stimulate a productive discussion period. Three concurrent panel sessions are held twice each day. Panel sessions unite researchers from either multiple (three or fewer) institutions or studies. Previous panel sessions have consisted of presentations based on a single theme or on different facets of a collaborative research project. Themes may be content-related, methodological (approaches to data collection, analysis), or substantive (differing perspectives on a topic), and may reflect research that has been published or work in progress.
Poster Sessions. Posters combine the graphic display of ongoing or completed research with the opportunity for discussion in an informal, individualized situation. As with panel sessions, poster content needs to focus on some “research issue,” not merely a report of findings.
Proposal Review
The program committee will review all proposals and make the final selection by November 1, 2007. Notification of acceptance will be sent via email by November 10. The program committee for this year will be chaired by Richard Roberts and will include, Cindy Bernheimer, Patricia Blasco, William Brown, Marci Hanson, Gloria Harbin, Scott McConnell, Susan Sandall, and Ilene Schwartz.
Proposal Requirements
All proposals:
- Must be research oriented and clearly state the research issues to be addressed.
- Must include a 100-word abstract, which will appear in the program booklet
- Must include up to 300-word description of the research to be discussed, including design of the studies, findings (if relevant), and issues to be addressed. Please describe ways this presentation or panel will promote dialogue with participants and advance cross-disciplinary or cross-setting early intervention research and knowledge.
- Can have up to 3 presenters (1 primary presenter and 2 co-presenters).
- Must describe the background or overview of the issue (including what we know from research and what we need to know)
- Must specify the discussion questions/issues you would like to use as a way to begin the presentation/dialogue. Part of the review process will involve the degree to which the symposia and the posters are likely to mix it up a bit through conversations in and out of the sessions. Please leave sufficient time to think through some of the issues addressed as a group. This requires your group to think about this as you put the sessions together. We hope that prompting you again on this objective will lead to a more dynamic and informative dialectic within our meeting.
Panel proposals:
- Must describe the role and nature of the discussion segment.
- Must reflect understanding of the purpose of the conference in promoting dialogue, including a description of the focus and purpose of the discussion by participants.
- Must reflect cross-study, cross-disciplinary, cross-institution, and/or cross-stakeholder representation.
- Must limit the number of presenters (two plus the lead presenter) and the amount of presentation time to allow for at least forty-five (45) minutes of discussion.
